New Discoveries: Forbes AAC Evaluation Kit & Loan Library

New Discoveries: Forbes AAC Evaluation Kit & Loan Library

In the ever-changing, wide-ranging, often overwhelming, and profoundly individualized realm of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT), all stakeholders need a wealth of knowledge and a toolbox filled with resources. New Discoveries is a series highlighting resources (some new/new to you, some you may have forgotten about) that might be of interest and use. We encourage you to explore and judge for yourself which to add to your toolbox.

Resource to Explore: Forbes AAC Evaluation Kit & Loan Library

What is the Forbes AAC Evaluation Kit?

“ProSlate™ AAC Evaluation Kit

Are you an SLP who frequently conducts AAC evaluations? Do you have access to an iPad or iPad mini? If so, this program is specifically designed for you!

Forbes AAC is now offering extended-loan AAC evaluation kits to SLPs and facilities at no cost. This means that you can have a ProSlate AAC device in your possession, ready to use for your evaluations and assessments.”

What is the Forbes AAC Loan Library?

The Forbes AAC Loan Library is a “self-serve, fully automated, online loan library system.

Our web based Loan Library enables Speech-Language Pathologists and end users to request devices for the purpose of conducting evaluations.“

The loan library includes items in the following categories: access devices, environmental controls, keyguards, message banking, mounting systems, ProSlate Series, Teletherapy Program, and WinSlate Series.

Why should I consider checking it out?

Trialing AAC and AT systems and equipment is critical to matching appropriate tools and supports to individuals who may benefit from them. While there are other options for obtaining devices and equipment for trials (such as your state’s AT Lending Library or by connecting directly with a vendor representative), the Forbes AAC Evaluation Kit and/or Loan Library is an option to explore, especially if you want to trial an iPad with an AAC communication app. The Forbes ProSlate (from the loan library) is preloaded with several AAC apps including: Compass, CoughDrop, GoTalk NOW PLUS, LAMP Words for Life, Predictable, Proloquo2Go, Proloquo4Text, Speak for Yourself, TouchChat HD, and Verbally .

Where can I learn more?

To learn more, visit the Forbes AAC website. Information about their device loan library can be found HERE. And information about their Evaluation Kit can be found HERE.
