Washington State Lt. Governor Cyrus Habib announced the launch of a new outdoor leadership program for young people with disabilities, Boundless Washington, earlier this month. The purpose of the program is to facilitate opportunities for young people with physical and sensory disabilities to enjoy and experience the outdoors, and to inspire young people with disabilities to become leaders in their communities through integrated leadership development training.
The two-year Boundless Washington program will take 10 students from across the state on a series of 14 outdoor excursions featuring activities such as skiing, hiking, camping, and more. Each excursion will be paired with online and in-person leadership development curricula to hone students’ leadership skills. The entire program is offered at no cost to students and their families.
Boundless Washington is open to students aged 14-16 with physical and sensory disabilities (the website notes youth with more than one disability, including other than physical or sensory disabilities are eligible to apply to this program). To be eligible for the program, students must be nominated by their teacher, counselor, or principal and will then be asked to submit a personal application.
Applications close February 3rd, 2020, so get those nominations and applications in soon!
