“The teaching of an AAC device goes beyond what a speech pathologist can achieve in a therapy session. Even the most skilled therapist will struggle to achieve authentic communication if certain foundational components are not in place outside the therapy room. This presentation guides teams on how to help users achieve authentic communication through implementation of the foundational components including collaboration, training, support, and culture. Strategies to effectively teach AAC and overcome barriers will be discussed. Specific implementation strategies and tools will be shared.
