September 21st: Let’s Talk about Sex! Education for Disabled Youth: Developing Comprehensive and Inclusive Sex Ed for Educators

Sexuality is a natural and biological part of being human. Learning about sexual health and healthy expressions of sexuality is necessary and important. People with disabilities are also sexual human beings, even though society has trouble acknowledging this. As a result, young students with disabilities enrolled in special education receive little to no sexual education in their schools or at home. This workshop will teach educators the importance of providing comprehensive sexual education for students with disabilities that is inclusive, accessible, and culturally competent. Utilizing a Disability Justice centered platform, workshop attendees will learn from discussion and current examples of ways to develop a Special Education sexual health curriculum that acknowledges and allows for differences in students' backgrounds, identities, comprehension, and understanding of the material. Participants will receive a handout of currently available resources to help them plan future sex education courses and programs.”
