Anthony Arnold
“Anthony Arnold is an augmentative and alternative communicator from San Tan Valley, Arizona (formerly from Grand Forks, North Dakota). Anthony was one of 10 children in North Dakota to receive speech generated devices in the 1980s. He often says that it was like everyone (including manufacturers) were learning together on what this technology could do. It was like everyone shared the same level of excitement and hope for the future.
After Anthony saw how much he had gained in all areas of his life, he was determined that he was going to have a role in augmentative and alternative communication one day. For the past 25 years, he has been a remote troubleshooter for one of the premier manufacturers in the field of augmentative and alternative communication.
In addition to working for the company, Anthony holds consulting positions at various universities, where they are interested in enhancing the lives of augmentative and alternative communicators. From living through it himself, Anthony has learned that each has something to contribute to the field, and we should take time to fully listen and determine where it may work best.
In Anthony’s spare time, he is often mentoring augmentative and alternative communicators and their families, not only to prepare them, but oftentimes walking them through their journey with augmentative and alternative communication.
Anthony recently became a partner at ImpAACt Voices, where they host virtual hangouts for augmentative and alternative communicators to foster relationships with one another. Over the years, Anthony has learned in order to be a more effective communicator, you need to be improving your skills continuously. These virtual hangouts provide a perfect avenue to do just that.
Anthony may have 45 years of experience in this field, but he often says the best is yet to come. There is always going to be newer technologies and approaches getting introduced. Our goal in the field should always be to ensure that augment”
