Never underestimate the importance of play in child growth and development! When children have difficulty playing, communicating, or fully engaging with their environment, valuable learning opportunities are missed. Proper positioning, access to appropriate communication tools, and adapted play materials allow young children with differing abilities to expand play repertoires leading to language growth and development of play schemas. Simple adaptations with easily found materials used in unique ways can make play activities accessible and more meaningful. This presentation will highlight positioning aids, DIY adapted toys and books, communication supports, and language-building strategies that can easily be implemented at home.”
