“As the school year progresses, issues and concerns for students using AAC are apparent. Some of these relate to 1) The recommended AAC system and how it addresses the student's need for language development; 2) The student's program to provide “education” vs. “placement”; and 3) Continued staff training to support the student’s academic and communication needs. This Master Class will begin to address these issues and parents’ perspectives by defining these challenges, proposing possible solutions, and suggesting ways for an IEP to be developed that is authentic to the students’ needs. Presenters include an experienced speech-language pathologist and current PRC-Saltillo Regional Consultant with expertise in system recommendations; and two parents who have children that use AAC.  Both parents are recognized nationally for their advocacy and first-hand knowledge of challenges, solutions and IEP development that works. The class will be moderated by a speech-language pathologist working in the field of AAC who will help the presenters address audience questions and comments.”
