Day 1: Emergent Writing: Generative Writing for All Learners

For many students with significant support needs, writing with the alphabet is not at ‘the top of the list.’ This workshop will support students with complex needs, including students who use AAC and need to use alternative pencils rather than traditional writing tools. Topics covered will include alternative pencils, early exploration of writing with the entire alphabet, using video feedback to support learners, and fun EASY projects to engage learners and their teachers! Participants will have several small maker projects and access to Dropbox with tools, tips, and templates.

Day 2: Building Writing: Beyond the Sentence - Supporting Students with Challenges

Many Students with significant needs get ‘stuck’ at the word or sentence level. This workshop will share strategies for teaching students ‘process writing’, including planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing writing. Specific tools, tips, and techniques will be shared at each step, along with samples of student writing. Participants will have multiple opportunities for ‘Try It’ activities. Several small maker projects will be included, plus access to Dropbox with multiple tools, tips, and templates.”
