TalkingAAC Online Afternoon Pre-Conference Workshop
“While initial assessment of individuals with complex communication needs often results in AAC system recommendations, ongoing assessment of communicative competence using an AAC system should result in AAC intervention recommendations. Language development for communication is a complex process. Add to this the need for an AAC system and skills beyond those that are used in the typical developmental process, and we are faced with challenges that require evidence based intervention to achieve our desired outcomes. Regular assessment of an individual’s skills when using an AAC system provides evidence of the intervention strategies that do and do not result in improved language development and communication. This session will test our understanding and use of ongoing assessment that can and should direct our intervention toward communicative competence.”
