AbleNet University webinar
“The transition to adulthood can be a time of peril. Teams do their best to consider transition goals in the IEP. However, not all issues receive focused attention. Some research shows that AAC users may only have 55% of the concepts needed in adulthood represented in their vocabulary set. This session will give a brief overview of the history of disability rights and access in the United States, with a focus on deinstitutionalization. We will cover topics such as vocabulary for sexuality and safety, vocabulary for reporting abuse, data privacy and potential environments for adult AAC users. This session will provide teachers, therapists, and caregiver some food for thought when it comes to considering the transition to adulthood.”
