School-based SLPs have a wide range of interest in and knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Teachers and other educators often have even less. Therefore, the task of districtwide AAC implementation can seem like a daunting one! However, with small steps over time you too can help your district see the value in creating communication-rich environments for all students.
Join Sara Ayars, Assistive Technology Specialist and Speech Language Pathologist, as she takes you on a tour of Bellevue School District’s approach to AAC and core vocabulary implementation. From collaboration in a districtwide “AAC Group,” to training, implementation, and coaching, Sara will take you step-by-step through the process Bellevue School District is using to continue to build capacity for AAC across the district.
Learning Objectives:
· Participants will understand the importance of collaboration in district-wide initiatives
· Participants will identify key stakeholders to involve in training efforts
· Participants will identify three components to include in a district-wide roll-out plan
