Ritika Khanal is a Senior at Mountlake Terrace Highschool, where she also serves as one of the main editors for her student newspaper, the Hawkeye. She was born with an eye condition called Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) leaving her with only light and shadow perception. When not studying for four of her advanced placement (AP) classes or writing and editing for the newspaper, Ritika serves as an adviser to her school board, works with her school’s equity team to advocate for other students, and enjoys reading a variety of books.

Students with vision loss require multiple assistive technology supports to successfully access their educational content. Knowing accommodations that are essential for this technology to work is vital to access all material. In this session, Ritika will share the AT supports that she uses daily and their function, accommodations that make content accessible and how teams can support students in successfully advocating for themselves. Ritika will also cover the importance of accessibility of digital information in interacting with peers.

3. Understand how to make material accessible and how to use universally available accessibility checker tools
