"This course will include 3 1-hour sessions with each session covering a different topic related to AAC, Autism, and the LAMP therapeutic approach. Night 1 titled "AAC and SGD’s for Autism" will provide an introduction to implementation of high tech AAC devices for children with a diagnosis of autism and other significant disabilities that lead to complex communication needs. They will take a look at the myths out there surrounding AAC and share the research that proves these myths invalid as well as providing evidence based practice ideas and practical methods to help educators increase opportunities for their students. Night 2 titled "iPads and LAMP Words for Life: WFL: Considerations & Customizations to Build a Foundation for Successful Use & Implementation" will provide an introduction to using iPads for AAC. Topics covered will include using guided access and other features and settings within the iPad and the LAMP Words for Life vocabulary to promote success. Ideas and strategies for implementation of iPads for AAC in the classroom will be covered. Information about conducting trials within the classroom setting using the LAMP Words for Life to determine medical necessity for purchase of personally owned systems as well using it as an aided language support for use by communication partners in order to provide & work towards immersive AAC environments will be shared. Night 3 titled "LAMP Case Study: Implementation Ideas" will provide participants with an introduction to the LAMP methodology through the use of a case study example. The case study will be presented using video examples and discussion. Participants will get an overview of the key elements of the LAMP approach, ideas for implementation, and the LAMP Words for Life vocabulary (available on an ACCENT device from the Prentke Romich Company or as an iPad application). Additional resources such as in-person LAMP trainings, webinars, website information, and support videos will be provided as well."
