With the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the ADA came the recognition that the one area where progress has not occurred is employment. Legislation continues to evolve in terms of promoting fully inclusion of persons with disabilities in the workplace. It is critical that AT professional are aware of the policies that support employment and understand what role they can play in ensuring opportunities are available for those that require utilization of assistive technology to maximize success in the workplace. This session will review new legislative and policy initiatives which promote competitive and integrated employment for persons with disabilities with an emphasis on transition age youth including the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Employment First and the Transition to Independence Act. Implications for AT professionals will be discussed and resources for more information will be provided.
