Accessibility Statement

Northwest Augmentative Communication Society (NWACS)

Last Updated: February 12, 2026

Northwest Augmentative Communication Society (NWACS) is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. As an organization centered on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), we believe access is foundational to participation, learning, and community.

We are continually working to improve the accessibility and usability of our website.

Accessibility Standards

We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines outline best practices for making web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities.

Measures We Take

  • Designing and developing new content with accessibility best practices in mind
  • Using semantic structure, clear headings, sufficient color contrast, and alternative text for images
  • As resources allow, testing pages for keyboard accessibility and assistive technology compatibility
  • Reviewing issues as they are identified and considering appropriate improvements
  • Working with accessibility specialists to guide evaluation and improvements

Accessibility is an ongoing process. We prioritize updates based on impact and available resources.

Accessibility Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some content may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. This may include:

  • Older content published prior to recent accessibility improvements
  • Archived materials
  • Documents or resources provided by third parties

If you encounter an issue not described here, please contact us so we can review and determine appropriate next steps.

Scope of This Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the website located at www.nwacs.info. It does not apply to external websites linked from our site.

Third-Party and User-Generated Content

Some materials shared on our website — including webinar slides, PDFs, or external resources provided by guest presenters — may not be fully accessible. While we encourage accessible content from contributors, NWACS does not control all externally created materials.

If you need information from one of these resources in an alternative format, please contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to provide access.

Feedback & Contact Information

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the NWACS website. If you encounter a barrier, need assistance, or would like to request content in an alternative format, please contact us:

Email: accessibility@nwacs.info

To help us respond effectively, please include the web page address (URL), a description of the issue, and the assistive technology and browser you are using (if applicable).

We strive to respond within 5-10 business days.

Ongoing Commitment

Accessibility is not a one-time project — it is a continual effort. We are committed to listening, learning, and improving so that our digital spaces reflect the inclusive values at the heart of NWACS.
